Polban's Short Course

Politeknik Negeri Bandung (Polban) invites you to attend its annual Short Courses. Located in the suburb area of Bandung with a perfectly comfortable ambiance, Polban is the best place to learn the local cultures.

Short Courses are a public education programs that open to all regardless of educational qualifications. The courses are for non-degree purposes and do not involve examinations of certification, though written or practical projects and reading may be required.

Short Courses seeks to make the wide range of students feel and learn Indonesian environment. We encourage you to explore the local cultures and business in Indonesia.

Politeknik Negeri Bandung at A Glance

Established in 1979, Politeknik Negeri Bandung (Polban) is the first and one of the biggest state Polytechnic in Indonesia. Bandung is the capital city of West Java, and the third largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta and Surabaya. Nicknamed Parijs van Java (Paris of Java) by the Dutch for its resemblance to Paris and European atmosphere back in colonial times, Bandung also earned another nickname as Kota Kembang, literally meaning the Flower City since Bandung used to have a lot of flowers. Located at the altitude of 768m and surrounded by the lush and beautiful Parahyangan mountains make the climate mild and pleasant. The city has been well known for its universities, creative industries and a great place for gastronomic adventure.

You’ll enjoy the city at the height of its festival calendar (Moslem big days), absorb new influences, and meet like-minded people from around the world as you embrace our exciting and enchanting city. When you join us for the Summer School you will have the opportunity to get involved with and some of the city’s finest views and cultures alongside your studies.

Program 1. Finance - Homestay

The Finance Course is designed for international students who want to learn Indonesian culture and business in Indonesia.

On your arrival day, we will pick you up at the airport and take you to a homestay. You will stay in a house of a local student to help you adapt in Bandung for two weeks. You will taste the kindness of the Indonesian family and the original Indonesian food in the local family, immerse in an Indonesian culture, and become familiar with the local lifestyle.

On the next day upon the arrival, you will be introduced to the Polban learning environment. You will be taken to a campus tour visiting faculties in Polban.

Cultural Performance and Tour

You will be invited to watch and learn some

traditional dance and music where you also

can introduce your simple art performance

to the other participants. We also will train

you to be able to perform Sundanese traditional

dance (Jaipong) and traditional music instrument.

On the other day, you will enjoy and join the

most popular instrumental group performance

playing Angklung (Bamboo Instrument) at Saung

Angklung Mang Udjo. You can enjoy an angklung

orchestra played by 12 years old or less children

or even be a part of this orchestra, holding one of

the angklung instruments. The place is in the

middle of padi terrace and bamboo field, a perfect location to feel the relaxedness of a small village.

 

Bahasa Indonesia

Understanding the Indonesian language (Bahasa Indonesia) and environmental conservation will be useful when participants are considering to pursue a study or job in Indonesia in the future. That is why we will help you to learn Bahasa.

Social Project and Workshops

The social project will be held in an elementary school, which you can teach them your national language and do some interesting games. We will also give you workshop about HIV and Green House.

 

Visiting Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs)

In this course, we will teach you Islamic Finance (Sharia) and

how the business in Indonesia. Moreover, the participants will

share their business environment and condition by some

presentations from each country. As a result, students can

recognize new knowledge among these two countries. We also

give a short trip to some popular SMEs: Maicih, Bandrek Cihanjuang,

and one of foreign factory.

Visiting Tourism Spots

In this course you will get opportunity to visit some beautiful tourism areas in West Java such as Tangkuban Perahu, Kawah Putih, Ranca Upas, Sari Ater Hot Spring, and outbound activities in The Lodge Maribaya. The purpose of the activity is to introduce participants to Indonesian history and natural landscape.

At the end of this short course, the participants will spend the last days in Seribu Islands (doing water sports, bicycling, BBQ, and bonfire in the beach).

Contribution Fee

The fee for this program is US$ 450. It will cover all the living cost (housing and meals), souvenirs, and tuition fee during the program (personal expenses are excluded).

Program 2. Tour Guide – Homestay

​

A tour guide is vital as often it’s the tourist’s first impression with the people and culture of the place they are visiting. Tour guide need the essential knowledge and application skills to describe tourist attraction (heritage, key landmarks, memorials, museums, or theme park), recommend experience, write and review tour commentary as well as conduct tour and enhance the guiding techniques.

Program 3. Tour Leader – Homestay

​

Tour leader are the key success of a tour by integrating all the tours together. The basic competences of tour leader are that they have travel experience and people skills, the way of looking after groups. With the skills, tour leader have to ensure that the tour runs smoothly, the logistic are in place, health and safety is adhered to and provide comprehensive briefings at the beginning and throughout the tour.

Program 4. Event Management – Homestay

​

Event is a rapid growing business within the service sector. The great strength of the business sector is a well-organized event that satisfying participant and visitor on all level. Politeknik Negeri Bandung has Event Management subject course that practically held a national business event called Indonesian Tourism Competition annually. The aim of this course is to improve the ability to become Event Organizer. The holistic and necessary knowledge as well as abilities in conducting event will cover start from planning the event, conducting the event and evaluating event. Practices will cover in most of the subject studied.

The short course will cover skill and competence in preparing the event planning and proposal for various need to conduct event.

15 days short course with a cost at US$ 1.600. Certificate given by Politeknik Negeri Bandung, Indonesia

Schedule

These short courses will be running during semester vacation (January-February and July-August) every year. All the requirements shall be send by email to kui@polban.ac.id at least one month before the commencement.
